Frequently Asked Questions

How much should I dress down?

Dress down to your comfort level. I have a variety of techniques to use through clothing if you are uncomfortable or unable to undress. If you prefer to be completely naked or keep undergarments on is totally up to you!

Do I have to be draped during a massage? Yes, unless we need to temporarily move it in order to apply treatment. The law requires us to drape clients, and I insist on proper draping protocol.

Does cupping/massage hurt?

That depends on the pressure and the stroke. A relaxation massage should not be painful at all. A deep tissue massage goes deeper into the muscle and is generally performed with the intention of relieving pain…but it may cause you some minor discomfort. You may have some delayed onset muscle soreness that should disappear a day or two after the massage. PLEASE let me know anytime the massage feels uncomfortable to you; I want to work within your tolerance, and it’s not my intention to deliberately cause you pain. . .I’m here to relieve it, not to cause it!

Cupping can be pretty intense but should not pass your pain threshold. If you feel like it’s too much please let me know and I’m happy to loosen them or completely take them off.

Can I talk during the massage?

Certainly! We want you to ask any questions that arise during the session. It’s your time, and you may chat if you’d like to. Our goal is for you to relax, though, so it might be best for you to clear your mind and focus on taking some deep breaths and just be in the stress-free zone for the next hour.

Do you have to talk during the massage?

I may need to check in with you once or twice on pressure or to ask you to change positions, but other than that, if you desire to have a silent massage, just ask. I’m happy to accommodate that

How often should I get a massage?

Anytime you like! There’s no such thing as too much massage. There is no “should,” although if you have a long-standing neuromuscular issue that’s causing you pain, I may recommend a certain number of visits within a certain time frame. I understand that people have time and budget constraints, and do my best to develop treatment plans that are mutually agreeable.
